Sistemas Generalizados de Preferências - O AGOA

Caros Alunos

Aqui deixo o relatório do AGOA de Julho 2008

Total Trade under AGOA

AGOA beneficiary countriesWhile most AGOA-eligible SSA countries recorded some exports to the US, the bulk (by value) is concentrated among a relatively small number.

Overall exports to the US by Nigeria, Angola, Gabon and South Africa far exceed those of the other countries, while only a dozen or so of the AGOA-eligible SSA countries have recorded any significant exports to the U.S. Detailed bilateral trade profiles for each AGOA-eligible country as well as for the various regions as a whole, disaggregated by sector, can be accessed by following this link, or by visiting the country sections (left column) and then clicking on "Detailed Trade Profile".

Nigeria, mainly through its oil exports under AGOA, accounts for over half of all exports shipped under this trade program.

However, the bi-lateral country trade analysis (see both overall and detailed bilateral Country Trade Profiles in left column) reveals that the AGOA benefits to Nigeria, Angola and Gabon currently accrue almost exclusively through the export of 'energy-related' products. These include oil and natural gas products.

Other than Nigeria, Angola, South Africa and Gabon, significant AGOA exports have been from Lesotho, Madagascar and Kenya. However, many AGOA-eligible countries in 2006 still recorded less than US$ 1mn worth of US-bound exports (see data below).

The trade data provides a statistical overview of all AGOA-beneficiary countries' total exports to the U.S., as well as exports under GSP+AGOA (GSP trade now falls under the broad AGOA program). The data is full-year and year-to-date, as applicable, and is compiled by and sourced from the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) based on official statistics of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

O caso particular de Moçambique

BI-LATERAL TRADE OVERVIEW

Trade between Mozambique and the USThe total value of bi-lateral trade has increased sharply in 2002, largely as a result of Mozambique's greater imports from the United States. As a result, Mozambique's overall bi-lateral trade deficit with the US has increased sharply in 2002, and stood at almost $ 90 million (2001: $21 million) fairly consistent, and was recorded at $ 21 million in 2001.

A very large proportion of Mozambique's exports to the US in 2002 consisted of 'agricultural products', most of which were exported under the provisions of AGOA. Mozambique’s imports consist predominately of agricultural exports, which increased fourfold in the 2001-2002 period.
